Mozilla is reported to be looking for someone to buy their gently used Thunderbird. The upload can be scheduled and it's easy to remember to upload the file if you've made changes during the session. The FTP option does not offer secure FTP and the function that's intended to upload changes automatically when the program closes sometimes fails. The developer clearly notes "Not a real synchronization tool, just exchanges the files!" For this reason, you need to establish a system that will result in synchronization. It's easy enough to copy files from one computer to another, but you have to remember which copy is the master copy. Addressbooks Synchronizer: Those who run Thunderbird on more than one computer may want to share an address book.Adblock Plus and Element Hiding Helper for Adblock Plus: These are helpful for anyone who subscribes to email newsletters that contain unwanted advertisements. This plug-in fixes that problem by watching the number of recipients and suggesting BCC when the list exceeds a certain size. Use BCC Instead: Thunderbird has no built-in method to easily send BCC messages.SmartTemplate4: While this add-on doesn't even begin to approach the functionality of The Bat, it does provide several useful functions that can be used in conjunction with Thunderbird's built-in signatures and templates.QuickFilters: Thunderbird has a robust filtering function, but QuickFilters makes the job even easier by allowing users to drag and drop messages to create filters that can then be fine tuned. Also, folders are sorted alphabetically within an account. This may not be the way you want to see them. Manually Sort Folders: By default, Thunderbird places email accounts in the order you create them.Provider for Google Calendar: If you want to synchronize your calendar with the Google calendar, you'll need this.Lightning: It's installed by default and provides the calendar function.I consider several add-ons to be absoultely essential and one of them is already included in the default Thunderbird installation. I have also found that it is possible, with some email clients, to drag messages between the applications. The program is licensed for 2 weeks ($30) and 1 year ($40) from the Aid4Mail website. It will cost you $30 or $40 dollars, though. If not, Aid4Mail has an application that will convert from nearly any email application's format to Thunderbird. If you currently use some other email program and want to convert to Thunderbird, you may be able to import messages from the other application into Thunderbird. The Thunderbird calendar can display any number of calendars you have access to via the Google calendar. Thunderbird Email on a MacĬalendar information is displayed on the right and messages are in the main column. Expected differences include locating preferences under the Thunderbird menu on a Mac and under Tools on the PC, keyboard differences, and the Mac's propensity to separate applications from their menus. Tabbed email browsing, smart searches, custom folders, and spam filtering make Thunderbird a good choice and it works well with most email services. While it doesn't offer as many features as The Bat (a Windows-only application), the interface makes finding and using the features easier. These and the program's own built-in tools make it far more customizable than applications such as Outlook. It can handle multiple email accounts, extensive message filtering, formatting, templates, and signature files. Thunderbird supports both POP3 and IMAP protocols, with or without encryption. Because of the way the Google calendar works, you can see family members' schedules or those of your co-workers. Thunderbird includes a calendar that, when combined with a downloadable add-in, can communicate with the Google calendar. It's the perfect choice for those who use both Windows computers and Macs because it runs on both platforms. If you don't care for Outlook or the email clients provided by Windows or OSX, it's an application that you should consider. Thunderbird is the email client from Mozilla, the same organization that created Firefox.
